Formerly the Coal Board Medical, the Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme protects the health and safety of Queensland coal mine workers by ensuring they undergo periodic health assessments.

Miners are subject to a number of potential health hazards in their normal daily work. The consequences of exposure to health hazards may be progressive and not realised until it is too late. The effects are not often visible and in some cases the hazard is not clearly understood and difficult to measure.
